| CONSTRUCTION: Heavy
fibreglass construction, in excess of Lloyds specifications
(2" at the keel to 7/8" at the gunwales: solid fibreglass
incorporating 'C-Flex'); the deck is constructed of 3
layers of ½" plywood covered in fibreglass; aluminum
pilot-house; 19,000# ballast; full keel with fully
supported rudder; bow and stern pulpits with lifelines;
hydraulic steering at two stations with emergency tiller.
The hull is a slightly modified version of the canoe-stern
Bruce Roberts 50. There are 4 water-tight bulkheads. |
 |
ACCOMMODATIONS: See
attached plan. The interior has berths for 8 and 6'3"
headroom. The interior is arranged for offshore passage
making and the yacht is intended to be self-sufficient for
long periods of time. There is a hold forward with deck
access. This is separated from two staterooms by a
watertight bulkhead. The staterooms each have double lower
berths and a single upper berth. Next aft is the main salon
with a 'U' shaped settee to port and a settee to
starboard.
There is a coal/wood stove amidships. In addition, there is
a hot water loop off of the engine providing interior heat.
The 'U' shaped galley is amidships to starboard. It is
fitted with a 3 burner LPG stove with oven, microwave oven;
ice-box with Adler Barbour refrigeration; stainless steel
sink and much counter and locker space. Counter tops are
solid maple with solid teak trim.
There is an enclosed head to starboard, opposite the
galley, with a self-contained, composting toilet, shower
with gray water collection tank. The pilothouse has a helm
station to starboard. |
 |
There is a companionway aft to an electronics station
to starboard, engine room access and the owner's stateroom
to port.
The interior of the yacht is finished in solid teak and the
appointments are robust and most suited to offshore usage.
The settees in the main salon are upholstered in heavy-duty
marine vinyl. The cabin soles are solid teak.
The yacht has a 50 gallon stainless steel fresh water tank
which is supplied by a desalinator. Hot water is supplied
by a solar hot water system. There is also a rain water
collection system on deck. |
 |
ENGINE: 1995 Perkins
M60 4 cylinder, fresh water cooled (heat exchanger) marine
diesel engine; approx. 500 gallon fuel capacity in steel
tanks.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: The
yacht has a 12 volt system supplied by an alternator on the
engine and 500 watt solar panels through selector switches
to lead acid batteries (400 amp/hr. total capacity, with
room for 1,000. amp/hr.). |
 |
SAILS: Staysail
schooner rig with 9.25 oz Dacron working sails; 2 -
Pro-furl roller furling gears; storm sails and various
light large jibs.
RIGGING: Ian Nicholson
designed 'Bi-Pole' rig: This is a simple and practical, if
unusual, rig that should be thought of as a staysail
schooner. |
 |
The simple 'A' frame 'bi-poles' are easy to maintain
and repair if needed; they are stable and strong and are
easy on the hull structure; they can be lowered and offer
many sail options for a range of wind conditions.
ELECTRONICS: Alinco
commercial grade VHF; 4 magnetic compasses; Raytheon Radar;
W-H commercial grade auto pilot. |
 |

foundry manual anchor windless; Simpson Lawrence electric
anchor windless; 300' of 3/8" anchor chain; 1,200 feet of
5/8' Nylon rode on a spool in the foc'sle; 600' of
¾" rode; 3 lengths of 1 ¼" nylon braid; 3
Danforth anchors; 5 Bruce anchors; 4 manual bilge pumps
(one for each water-tight section of the hull); windshield
wiper in the pilothouse; 6 man canister life raft; 10'
fibreglass dinghy. |

BROKER'S COMMENT:
This is an unusual vessel and she will appeal to someone
with serious cruising intentions. She has evolved over time
under the knowledgeable ownership of a very experienced
sailor. She incorporates his experience-based ideas of
cruising to and living aboard in remote areas.
The pictures below were taken before the aluminum
pilot-house was added, and are included here to show the
sails and rig.
